🎓 Admissions Sharing Session | From Aspiration to Admission: A Roadmap to Your Dream School

How does a high school student passionate about design take step by step toward their dream school and gain admission to the Design program at Carnegie Mellon University?

Art Floor is pleased to invite Fei Feng, a recent admit to the Design program at Carnegie Mellon University, to share her journey—from portfolio development to the full college application process—along with her most authentic insights, challenges, and reflections.

During the application process, her biggest realization was:
“Top design schools in the U.S. care not only about grades, but also about your creative thinking, design process, and the meaning behind your work.”

Fei’s portfolio spans product design, branding, entrepreneurship projects, and socially driven design. She has developed a successfully funded board game project, participated in patented product development, and engaged in design competitions and community initiatives—using design to respond to real-world needs and problems.

Her portfolio was also the most challenging and important part of her application journey.

From concept ideation, research and analysis, prototyping, testing, and iteration to final presentation, each project required significant time and effort. She gradually realized that what matters most is not only the final outcome, but how clearly you communicate your thinking process and the intentions behind your decisions.

✨ What You Will Learn in This Session
• What top U.S. design schools are really looking for
• How to plan and build a competitive portfolio
• Practical experience in essay and application preparation

✨ Advice from Fei
• Start building and exploring early
• Stay curious and explore different directions
• Focus on developing projects you are truly passionate about
• Plan ahead to manage your timeline effectively

A strong portfolio is never just a collection of works—it is a journey of observation, exploration, thinking, and growth. It is also the most important way for admissions officers to understand how you see the world.

If you are interested in product design, innovation and entrepreneurship, design education, or applying to art and design universities in the U.S., this is a session you won’t want to miss.

📅 Session Time
Taiwan Time: July 26 (Sun) 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

🎞️ Process Behind the Exhibition 《向內的樓 rooms within》| Chen Dan & Lee Chia-Jui Dual Exhibition

Some emotions are not formed suddenly,
but slowly take shape through repetition, erasure, and stillness.

In rooms within, spaces, animals, and cracks become an emotional diary that cannot be fully explained. Two artists repeatedly construct the gap between dreams and reality, depicting inner states suspended—neither rising nor falling.

We invite you to step into fragments that are still forming.

🎬 Exhibition Info
📅 Duration: 05.31 — 06.21, 2026
📍 Venue: Art Floor 藝樓

In the basement, somewhere between dreams and reality, we await your arrival.

🏛️ Global Aesthetic Landmark | LACMA: An Art Laboratory Spanning Six Millenniums

Situated at the cultural heart of Los Angeles, LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) is the largest art museum in the western United States. Housing a collection of over 155,000 masterpieces that span six thousand years of human civilization, it is an essential aesthetic sanctuary for art enthusiasts and creators worldwide.

🏗️ Structuring the Future: Peter Zumthor’s Horizontal Design Manifesto
Currently, LACMA is undergoing a landmark transformation project—the new David Geffen Galleries, designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate Peter Zumthor.

De-layered Space: Rejecting traditional vertical floor divisions, the horizontal design places artworks from different cultures and eras onto a single plane, emphasizing an egalitarian dialogue between civilizations.

Fluid Narratives: The new building will champion rotating curatorial programs instead of static permanent displays, allowing visitors to explore human civilization from entirely fresh perspectives upon every visit.

🎨 Must-See Iconic Collections
LACMA’s holdings encompass an immense chronological span from ancient Egypt to contemporary art, with its most celebrated highlights including:

《Urban Light》: Created by Chris Burden, this installation of 202 restored antique street lamps has become one of Los Angeles' most recognizable landmark vistas.

《Levitated Mass》: Michael Heizer’s colossal megalith installation provokes profound dialogues surrounding weight, space, and human perception.

Masterpieces: The museum houses iconic works such as René Magritte’s The Treachery of Images ("This is not a pipe"), alongside pieces by Picasso and Cézanne, as well as extensive collections of Asian and Latin American art.

🔥 Impactful & Classic Special Exhibitions
Renowned for its experimental curatorial style, LACMA has hosted numerous globally acclaimed special exhibitions:

《Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters》: An immersive look into the fantastical, macabre world of the master filmmaker, blending cinematic drafts with his private collections.

《Lee Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse》: Displaying the deeply tense, theatrical, and artistic design vocabulary of the late fashion visionary.

《Rain Room》: A sensory, tech-infused installation that allows visitors to walk through a downpour indoors without getting wet, exploring the delicate interaction between humans and their environment.

Art Floor Student Growth Review | Creative Art Program Kids

Not every child needs to become an artist, but every child deserves the ability to create.

At Art Floor, what we care most about is how children begin to observe the world—and how they gradually learn to express themselves.

At the beginning, children may still be exploring lines and colors, and their work may feel uncertain or experimental. But over time, we see them start making choices, voicing their ideas, and becoming less afraid of being “different.”

Behind each artwork is not just an outcome, but a process of trying, making mistakes, and starting again—step by step building confidence through creation.

We don’t only teach children “how to draw,” but guide them to “how to think”: how to observe, how to generate ideas, how to face challenges, and how to find their own solutions.

Creation is a way for children to understand the world, and the beginning of learning how to communicate with it.

Art Floor Student Growth Recap | High School Portfolio Program

Some students walk into the studio not yet knowing exactly what they want to create or become.

Some start from a love of drawing and gradually explore animation and digital design. Others expand from 2D work into sculpture and 3D printing. And some, through ongoing discussions and experimentation, slowly discover their own interests and direction.

The portfolio program is not only about producing finished works—it is about learning to observe, think, and express through the process of making, gradually forming a personal worldview.

This stage of learning includes design thinking, animation, sculpture, 3D printing, mixed media, digital design, computational art, and UI/UX. Moving from 2D to 3D, from handcraft to technology-based media, each attempt becomes a step closer to understanding oneself.

What matters most is not how perfect the work is, but whether students begin to understand: “What do I want to express?”

And that moment of self-awareness is the most valuable part of the portfolio journey.
